Welcome to the web pages of the Region #12 Elementary School Building Committee. The question of how to improve Region 12’s elementary schools – whether by renovating the existing three town schools or by building a new consolidated school - is a political football. There have been strains between Bridgewater, Roxbury, and Washington, but ultimately the choice lies with the region's voters. The job of the Board of Education and its Building Committee is to develop plans for each option, and to provide voters with a referendum that presents the best choices and costs in a clear manner. These plans must serve our children's educational needs for decades. The Building Committee's mission is to review four architectural proposals focusing on the following areas: feasibility and construction materials, education specifications, LEED certifiability, costs, and state reimbursement. This will be performed without fear or favor for any one particular scenario. In Mid-November the building committee interviewed construction consultants with the goal of selecting one to review existing plans for town schools and for a consolidated school on the Mundy property in Roxbury. This independent consultant will review the four plans for compliance with the Board’s educational specifications (the ed specs), and to analyze architect-prepared cost estimates. The building committee in consultation with the construction consultant will prepare recommendations and a final report for the Board of Education to use as a basis for a referendum for voters to select one option or the other. Once construction begins the Building Committee will monitor work for adherence to plans, costs and any changes to the work that require extra charges. The end goal is to deliver facilities that meet all requirements on time and within budget. Andrew Engel
